Position Overview:
Black Austin Tours seeks a passionate and experienced Tour Guide to join our team, playing a pivotal role in attracting and retaining new clients, from corporate groups to community-based tours. The ideal candidate will seamlessly combine historical knowledge with an engaging storytelling approach, connecting Austin's past to its present. The ideal candidate will have connections to or roots in Austin, a background in public history and experience leading group tours. We are in need of tour guides to conduct weekday tours. Candidates with weekday availability will get priority consideration.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead walking tours, providing insightful and memorable experiences for diverse client groups.
2. Craft stories that connect Austin’s history to current events, making each tour relevant and impactful.
3. Regularly liaise with Dr. Javier Wallace and the broader Black Austin Tours team to refine tour routes and content.
4. Represent Black Austin Tours with professionalism and enthusiasm, ensuring customer satisfaction to foster repeat business and referrals.
5. Be able to conduct the suite of Black Austin Tours tour offerings which include walking tours, bus tours, private tours and customize tours dependent on client needs
6. Be willing to learn the history shared by Black Austin Tours, it is one thing to memorize our content and another to learn the information and share it with your voice

Desired Qualifications:
- Prior experience in conducting tours, preferably in a diverse urban setting.
- Proven track record with diverse client types including corporate groups, schools, and community organizations.
- Engaging storyteller with a knack for making history come alive.
- A historian or public historian qualification is preferred.
- Demonstrate a knowledge, interest and understanding of historical tour practices related to American Black history
- Typical availability from Monday - Friday during the day (prior to sunset hours)
- Ability to link historical facts to current events, providing a comprehensive tour experience.
- Based in Austin or able to commute to Austin 3-4 days a week.

Position Overview:
Black Austin Tours, an established name in the Leisure, Travel & Tourism industry, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant. Our company focuses on touring experiences that highlight the rich history and heritage of the African American community in Austin, Texas. We aim to bring history to life through a comprehensive presentation of historical facts and narratives.
Our ideal candidate is a dedicated graduate student or professional in a related field who has a foundation in, and passion for, historical research and analysis that pertains to the African-American experience.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive and meticulous research on the African American experience in Austin, primarily from digitized documents and occasionally from various traditional and non-traditional archives.
2. Find, transcribe, analyze, and categorize historical materials including but not limited to account books, letters, diaries, newspaper clippings and photographs.
3. Carrying out specific research projects as needed, ensuring data verification, accurate documentation, and the maintaining of confidential information.
4. Cooperate with tour guides and organizers in the creation of historically accurate and engaging tour content.
5. Contribute to the strategic and creative process of developing engaging content that showcases the African American history and culture of Austin.
6. Regularly update and report findings to the management team.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Currently pursuing or holding a graduate degree in history or a related field, preferably with a focus on the African American experience.
2. Demonstrates experience working with both digitized and physical archival documents and materials.
3. Possesses outstanding academic research skills and data interpretation.
4. Has the ability to work independently and have strong self-motivation and discipline.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), database management, and software relevant to archival and historical research.
7. Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
